These
Exotic animals such as reptiles, amphibians,
large species of fish such as sharks, and some
large birds do not make good pets for the
general public. These animals require
specialized food and environmentally controlled
enclosures to ensure they are not a danger to
themselves or to your family. These
exotic animals are best admired virtually
either through documentary films, zoos, or
other specialized care facilities that have the
significant resources and expertise to properly
take care of these animals. Most of these
animals will live longer than traditional pets
such as cats and dogs. It really is a
considerable commitment to take on the ownership
of these exotic animals. However, millions of
these exotic animals, of are sold in the pet
trade, often times when the animal is a cute and
small juvenile, to unsuspecting families that
don't realize what a significant burden these
animals can be. Not only can this endanger the
welfare of the animal, many of these exotic
animals can be dangerous, some even deadly as
they grow up. Many states now have laws
restricting the sale, possession and
transportation of exotic animals. Recent
federal bans have been imposed on large python
species.
Please, be aware of special needs required to
take care of exotic animals in addition to the
laws in your state and county before as you
consider purchasing an exotic animal. If you
have already made the purchase and currently
have an exotic animal that you cannot maintain
properly or are concerned with violating the
law, please donate the animal to SSS Rescue.
We accept exotic animals under anonymity. We
are interested in the wellbeing of the exotic
animals. Keep in mind that voluntary
surrendering of illegal animals may provide you
amnesty in some states and counties. Check with
your local law enforcement if you have any
concerns. We work closely with the animal
control offices and will gladly coordinate with
them for the safe surrendering of illegally kept
exotic animals.
Virginia: Summary of Law: No person may
possess nonnative exotic animals that are
classed as predatory or undesirable as a "pet."
Nonnative exotic animals include, but are not
limited to: bears, wolves, coyotes, weasels,
badgers, and hyenas, all species of
non-domesticated cats, alligators, and
crocodiles.
Maryland: No person may possess or breed the
following species of animals as a "pet": foxes,
skunks, raccoons, all species of bears,
alligators, crocodiles, all species of wild
cats, wolves, nonhuman primates, various
venomous reptiles, etc.
We rescue
unwanted exotic reptiles, amphibians, fish and
birds from pet owners. Please,
donate your unwanted pet, enclosures,
accessories and food to us and you will receive
a donation receipt that may tax deductible up to
the fullest extent under tax code, 501(c)(3).
We also accept members and volunteer support.
Contact us if you have an exotic pet that you
are no longer able to take care of or no longer
want to have. We will ensure the animal is
properly taken care of, you no longer have to
worry about it and you may get a tax deduction
as an added benefit. Rather than purchase your
own exotic pet and add to an ever increasing
problem, you can virtually adopt one of our
rescued animals! We also rescue animals
(reptiles, amphibians, fish, or birds) that you
find around almost anywhere. Don't kill it or
turn it loose, let us rescue it!
SSS Rescue provides
virtual pet adoptions over the internet! A
monthly or annual donation provides the
necessary food and resources to care your pet.
You can view your pet over the internet any time
you like using live streaming video feeds from
our enclosure facility. The virtualized
adoption donation is fully deductible to the
maximum extent allowed under 501 (c)(3), public
charity status 170 (b) (1) (A) (vi). The
virtualized pet adoption ensures the rescued
animals are properly taken care of while you get
to enjoy watching your pet, anytime.
Feeding schedules will be posted so you can
watch you animal eat. And,
unlike actual pets, you can adopt as many
different kinds of animals as you like and be
sure they are able to enjoy their captive life
as much as possible.
Thank you for
supporting SSS Rescue and virtualized pet
